Eye & Ear Check Up

Prevention is always better than cure.

My son's school held a Vision-Audio Conservation Program last August this year. They had undergone eye and ear check up. I am sure that my son has no problems when it comes to hearing because I had his ear checked when he was still a baby. On the other hand, I am quite nervous with the result of his eye check up. He loves watching near the TV and we would always asks him to move far away from it.

So when I opened up his Notebook #1 this morning, the results was already inserted. I am relieved that all the results are ok. His vision on both eyes are 20/50. However, there was a note that he sometimes experienced a blurred vision and with that a regular eye check up is required.

Regarding his Audio check up, both his ears passed from 500 HZ - 6000 HZ.

In connection to that, although his results are fine, I should continue to take extra caution in taking care of his audio and vision.

I don't know how it feels like to win or be included in the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs. But, I want to support those that I think deserves to win and be acknowledge. This is my first time to join and even my blog isn't that famous I want to use to it change someone's blogging life. Here are my nominees for this years Top 10:

My First Fondant Cake!

My very first Fondant Cake for my son's 4th birthday last December. I remembered how nervous I am because it was a very long time ago I've done something like this. I have done several cakes during my high school and college days but I used royal icing back then. This cake was totally different because I used Marshmallow Fondant Icing. It became harder to do because I lack proper equipment like my oven was only a convection oven. I have to stay up all night just to bake 8 square pans of chocolate cake. Rolling of the fondant icing was also a big problem because I have to roll it twice as large as the actual cake and I have no big, smooth table. So, can you imagine how hard it is smoothing the surface of the fondant? Whew! But, I managed to survived! The design of the cake was Buzz of Toy Story whom was his favorite character during those times. My plan was to cut fondant icing to form Buzz but, as I have said I got frustrated with rolling it so I settled to my all time guaranteed icing, the Royal Icing. I finished the cake just in time for my son's celebration and I am proud to say that they all liked it especially my son.

My First Blogging Gig by Teleserv

It was one hell of a night...

May 4, 2011, my brother and I arrived at the Cinema 4 of the Gateway Mall in Cubao, Quezon City. we slowly walked through the hall way hoping that somehow I can got a glimpsed of bloggers that I knew via Facebook. All of them were in groups chatting and laughing and none of them were familiar to me. At that exact moment, I wanted to turned my back and just go home because I can't stand the awkwardness that I felt. But, the other side of my brain told me that I should stay because after all it was my first blogging event. With a cold hands and a heartbeat that I can almost hear banging my ears, I patiently waited for the registration to start. And when it did, I slid to the group of bloggers and silently lined up. Officially Enrolled

This morning we went to my sons school for the enrollment. We arrived there before 8 am and there were a few parents waiting and some were being attended by the staff. Exactly 8 am, I approached the information desk and handed over the Admission Paper of my son. A few minutes had passed and the room suddenly were full of parents. That was only the time that they handed over numbers and instructed us to fall in line. Luckily, I never left my spot in front of the Information desk and I got number 1. After the process there or registering my sons name and student number I went to the cashier to pay the tuition fee. To my surprise, they have increased the fee without informing us so most of the parents were a bit angry. But, what can we do right? So, instead of wasting my energy complaining, I just went over to paying it and bought his uniforms. Right now, my son is officially enrolled for the Kindergarten level and his schedule will be 7:15 am.

It's Friday today! I totally forgot to do an entry for the Pink Friday. It is not all pink but the box has pink letters so I thought of using this for my entry this week. By the way, this XOXO purse was also given to me by my MIL.

My Old Navy Flip Flops

Last April 3, we went to the airport and picked up my SIL whom is having her three weeks vacation from the U.S. While waiting for the arrival time, I took this picture of my son eagerly waiting for her Tita. He was so excited that when we woke him up at 4:30 in the morning he didn't hesitate and got up very quickly.

In connection to that, today is Pink Fridays day and honestly I am thinking what to have for this week. Luckily, my SIL gave me a Pink Old Navy flip flops! This was just perfect my problem solved.

I just want to share this old KOMIKS that my hubby used to read when he was little. I think this belong to the 1st generation of comics that came out here in the Philippines in the early 80's. My son's turn now to read the funny and inspiring stories. I want him to read it because there are stories that has the teachings of God and promotes good values among children.

Way back 2006, when I am still part of the working force of our country, I often heard/seen the word blog, blogging and blogger on TV shows. I remembered a blogger was featured on Jessica Soho's shows tackling about how she was able to earn by just doing reviews on the latest gadgets. When advertisers started to noticed her site it was also the time that the money kept coming in. I just thought that time that, that girl was really lucky and talented to have penetrated such earning opportunity.

(1)Blogging paved the way to many frustrated writers who aren't lucky enough to land a job in publishing companies;(2) or to those who are burnt out from their day job and wanted to call it quits with their bosses;(3) or to a lonely person who just want to have an outlet of his/her thoughts hoping that someone in the virtual world will take notice of her;(4) or to a housewife who want to feel that there is still life after her household chores;(5) or to a curious person who just want to try blogging because it is the "IN" thing now. Whatever the reason may be, the important thing to remember is that you should blog with all your heart and you are not using anyone to get notice.

I am reasons number 2 and 3. I started to build my blog from scratch and thanks to Mr. Google that he thought me every step that needed to be done. I became obsessed of my learnings and immediately opened up 5 blogs at the same time. Too bad most of them didn't work out since I never really have given much thought about each theme and they ended up in the trash. That didn't stopped me though, for the nth time I opened up another blog. But this time, I took baby steps in learning and developing it from it's template theme (which I won) and from having to bought its dot info domain. True enough by careful planning and managing it, it is still alive until now. After I established it, I decided to have another one with a general topic too and with a dot info domain as well.

Blogging changed my perspective on the internet. My first impression of it was only for searching and connecting with old friends and relatives through social networks. But right now, I am enjoying reading different topics written by my co-bloggers. I learned a lot from them and it is like sitting in a library reading tons of books with so much knowledge and informations you can grasp. I also became so vigilant to every place I go to checking out if there are events, new products, promos and anything interesting that I can blog about. Sometimes my family finds it weird when I took pictures of the food before eating them. Blogging opened the opportunity for me to earn at home. There are so much inspiring stories about earning online that I said to myself that someday I will be able to inspire other people too. True enough I managed to save my earnings that I am able to give my share on the household expenses. It also taught me the real value of money because what I am earning now really came from long patience and hard work.

With all this, I am eying to become a better and improved blogger this year and for the years to come. Never ending learning and researching are the key in achieving it. Asking question to the pro blogger friends I have can help me a lot too. And for the newbies out there, I can say the most effective way to learn this thing is through mentoring. I am also praying that Mr. Google will give me the page rank I am targeting for a very long time now. I know he will, but I know that I have also to do my share in posting quality articles and making a plan on how to increase the traffic to my site.

Spam Mail from Paypal

I received last march 8, 2011 an email from the Resolution Center of Paypal. I immediately felt that it might be a fraud since it landed on my spam mail folder and I just felt that something was not right. It was stated that they believed a third party accessed my account and that I should update my account. There was an attachment I have to open and a certain JavaScript will pop up and I need to allow it in order to verify some informations. Having to read those instructions left me suspicious as to its real source. Also, thank God that I have read articles like this from other bloggers before. It was alarming though for some newbie that has no idea about it. So this post is specially dedicated for them to be informed.

When you have received suspicious emails like this you should:

1. Not open the attached file since it might contain virus that can harm your computer.

2. Not follow all the instructions stated in the mail.

3. Double check your account if it was indeed inaccessible.

4. You can also check from the company itself, like in this case, Paypal, if they indeed sent you an email regarding your account.

5. You can also check with your blogger friends if they have experienced the same thing just to be sure.

6. The email content was something like this:

It is always safe to be vigilant and informed when it comes to internet nowadays. There are still many people who will take advantage of those who doesn't know much. We don't want to loose our hard earned money in just one click.

My Dream Cuckoo Clock!

Time is very essential in our daily lives. Every household, offices, other places and individuals have their own gadget to tell time. Even my blog site has a clock on it to remind me whether I am working late or not. In our own household, we have different kinds of clock from wall clock, digital clock, watch and they vary on their designs as well. But, most of them aren't working now due to poor quality. Our family loves picture specifically taking shots of my son. it is very addicting because these days it is much easier to capture every moments without having a problem whether your film will run out or not. Digital technology allows us to store as much pictures and informations as we can. And because of this, most of our pictures are stored either on this lappy or to our mobile phones. It is a very tedious job to organize all the shots based on the occasion and copy them one by one on a disc. I have to do this before my computer breaks down due to overload. But, until now I haven't started yet because when I see all those scattered pictures, I tend to be lazy. We are also planning to print all the pictures but I will surely have to save for this because it will be very expensive. On the other hand, there is another option I am thinking of doing. Having them printed on a photo book! Hmmm...I have already tried one and it came out just fine. I will pay more but if I think of the quality and the presentation of the pictures, well, it is all worth it. I can customized it according to my taste and having them on that format makes it more storage friendly. I don't need to buy individual albums just to put all the pictures one by one. I think it is a very nice idea. I should get starting if I want to finish it all up in time!

This is a late post..

After how many months of teaching my son the basic lesson a preschooler has to learn, it already paid off. Last Monday, February 7, 2011 he had his entrance examination at the Infant Jesus Academy in Marikina City, Philippines. We arrived there 30 minutes before his scheduled time and upon arrival there were already 4 kids waiting for their turn. As a stage mother, as my hubby always tells me, during the entire waiting period I consistently told my son that for him to be able to study there, he must answer his test correctly. I kept on reminding my son this because he has the habit of answering the questions wrong even if he knows the answer. He does this when he wants to piss me off. So 10:00 am came and he was accompanied by the teacher whom will give the exam. I haven't got the chance to take pictures of him because I was so nervous that my fingers were shaking (talking about a stage mom, huh!). After 20 minutes, my son was running towards me holding his test permit and with a loud voice plus a bright face, he was shouting "Ina! very good daw ako!" I checked his permit and the only thing stated there was the time the result will be released. So, we went home....

At home, the initial thing that he told me was he have done his best and answered all the questions correctly (in Filipino language) in a proud manner. So I told him that he have done a great job.

Thursday...I went to the school to get the result. I am the only parent there since it was only 8:00 am. The lady in the information desk arrived and I handed her my son's paper. She looked for my son's test paper and told me that he passed. The stage mom in me kicked in again, I asked what was his score. She told me that he got 45 over 46 items meaning he only had 1 mistake. I asked her also if I can see the paper myself but she said that it was not allowed. But, I insisted and asked her instead what was my son's mistake. We looked up and found out that the only thing that was wrong was his writing of letter "p". After that, she read to me the observations of the teacher who handled him during the test which are as follows:

1. Can identify similar objects
2. Can identify color, shapes, letters and numbers
3. Can write letter and numbers
4. Can write his name

I am just so proud of him because as early as three years old I am teaching him all that. And now that he is four, we are just practicing his reading skills and I am planning to teach him also the basics on Mathematics.

Getting Things Organized

Cleaning and organizing are the two most problems most of us moms are encountering. I for once, is having a hard time setting up a routine when it comes to cleaning and organizing our room. It becomes very frustrating task especially after you are done in the room it will all fall back into the same untidy place again after how many days. Dispatching and throwing things that aren't needed to trash will then be replaced again with new stuff. And now that there is a child in the house, the more easier the room gets unorganized. Many manufacturers are now introducing ways and means to lessen these clutter in our house or even offices. Plastic boxes with covers, hangers for bags, belts, shoe boxes are just some of them. Surely, they will answer your problems instantly. But, can it still do it purpose if you have so much things to store and these boxes are all piling up crowding your room? We need to have an extra storage place like an extra room in our house that can be converted into a storage space. On the other hand, what if your house doesn't have extra room? In other countries like in UK there is this business solely for the purpose of storing your extra baggages that can't be kept in your house. Like the storage birmingham wherein citizens of that country take advantage off. This might be our solution and can keep our houses and offices organized again.

It is very rare that hubby appreciate clothes especially t-shirts. Because he is very particular with the fabric, style, and the design. So when I had this shirt shipped to me, I am very nervous if he will like it or not. So I showed it to him and he agreed to me that it was nice. He added up that he like the fabric because it was thick compared to most of custom printed shirt we had in the malls. He also commended the quality of print it had, it is smooth with no cracks even after washing. When he wore it, it fitted his body well and he told me that the cloth was very comfortable in the body. 2010...A Year That Was....

It's been, I think 2 years that I am struggling earning online. I am not very lucky in finding a great employer that would give me a permanent job. I am on the verge of loosing hope until the last quarter of 2010 came. It is really true that when it rains it really pours.

The phone rang this morning, the man on the other line was asking for me. They informed me that they will deliver something for me this afternoon so I better be home to receive it. Four pm, there the door bell rang and it was the delivery man. He immediately handed me my package and went off.

The Rise of Photo Books

Since the birth of my son came the birth of tons and tons of pictures. Thanks to the digital technology it is very easy to take lots of shots in a single moment. This is our advantage over the past years. Every precious moments and milestones of our babies are being captured immediately. We ca easily edit and delete pictures that we don't like unlike in the early days that we don't have the choice but to print all the pictures out. With this development in the photography, I have notice myself that I always take pictures but never printed them out. As a result, all pictures are stored here on my laptop and to discs. But, as I have stated technology is very much changing every minute. You can now have your photo prints via internet or from your favorite print shops. They have this service called the photo books. You can choose your own theme, design and how the pictures are arranged. More so, it is very convenient choice because it can come in various sizes that will be more space saver. I have availed of this service last year and very much delighted with the result. I am now in the process of collating all the pictures here on my laptop and arranging them according to occasion and then off to my favorite printing shop.

If you have a son or a boy in the family, you can probably relate to this post. You see, my son is now very much fanatic when it comes to different kinds of toys. From the day he was born until now, we haven't stop buying toys for him. Others are being given to him as a gift. Our house right now is like a toy land full of different kinds of toys. As they grow older the preference on what kind of toy they want also changes. Right now, he was hook up on trains and cars. I know that in the near future he will be fond on Remote controlled cars, helicopters, trains, etc. Scouting where to buy Cheap RC Accessories is also a must because most of the parts are very expensive. It is shown in the prices displayed in every toy stores that sells this RC toys. And reality bites, it is not that practical to buy things too expensive. There are other options or sites that offers the same stuff but of lesser price. We just have to be wise when it comes to buying this things. Remember, it doesn't have to be cash out more than you could just to have a hobby that you like.

Wow! This is my last post for the year 2010. The days passed so quickly that we are now 2 hours away from 2011. But, before I do that let me just say thank you to the Lord Almighty for all the blessings and hardships He has given me and my family. we become stronger and closer with one another. He helped us realize the true value of family. I want to thank Him also for the online job that He gave me. I am now more financially stable compared to the previous years. I am very lucky this last quarter of the year and I wish for it to continue next year. Thank you for also giving me new friends especially here in the blogosphere. I will continue this thank you post next year as I have to reminisce all the things that have happened to me.

My Bebe Got ___for Christmas

A month before Christmas we were already discussing what gift we should give to our son. Since he was crazy back then with Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear, we have scouted where we can buy and how much. To our surprised, the Buzz Lightyear that we found cost Php4000. As much as we love to buy this for him the cost is really not realistic enough for us (hubby and I). Thank God that as Christmas was approaching, his craziness over that turned to Ben10. Compared to Buzz the price of a Ben10 omnitrix was way, way cheaper.

Update on Social Spark v1

I was complaining on my previous post about not able to access Social Spark the old version. Well, I am very much worried since I have funds there and I am still waiting for their minimum payout of $50. So what I did after I posted it here, I sent an email to their customer service informing them of my query.

I have waited for 6 days to get a response from them but it was all worth the wait since they have manually cashed out my finances to my Paypal account (view here). Right now, I am still a member of Social Spark v2 and still waiting for opportunities to write about. And anyone who has the same situation as mine, you can get in touch with them so that you can withdraw your money too.

A Day at the Cribs Foundation

Last Saturday we visited the Crib Foundation located in Marikina City. It was an outreach program by my hubby's car club the MitsulancerPh, Inc. They held it every Christmas season wherein old clothes and toys and other stuff that their members can give will be donated to the foundation. It was my first time to went there so I have no idea on what to expect. I just thought that I will visit some orphan and that't it. We arrived at around 10 in the morning and few of their members were already there. My hubby gave Tyreese's old things and then we proceeded. We entered a room full of babies ages 1 year and below. As we entered, a baby boy approached me and hugged me and just stayed with me. It was awkward at first but as I get along with them it went alright. We played and played and you can feel that the babies all longed for attention. One baby even called me "Mama" and it just touched my heart. On the other hand, Tyreese ran and played with them and I can tell that he too was enjoying the moment. One baby giggled at his laughter while the other one was following him trying to slap him with a toy. Taking of photos is prohibited and you have to seek their permission first. The volunteer baby sitter told me that it was for the protection of the children and I totally understood. Came 11 am and the play time was finished because they will took a nap. It was hard when we told them that we have to go. In that small span of time, they have touched my heart and it was one humbling experience for me and my son. I will never forget their faces all smiling at that mere short encounter. This will definitely not our last visit and I said to myself that I will make something to help them and to have more people donate things for them. By the way, they are open for adoption provided that you are married and you have a stable job to be able to raise them well. They said that the DSWD will be the ones who will have a say on that matter.

Aside from those babies that I have the chance to know, they also have infants (as young as 3 days old), toddlers and teenagers in the foundation.

One FUN Experience

Being a graduate of Hotel and Restaurant Management exposed me to a lot of things that relates with food and beverages. We are taught how to cook different specialty food, how to bake different types of cookies, pastries and cakes and appreciate the different kinds of beverages as well. I remember having to memorize all the cocktail recipes because it was part of our midterm examination. We have to prepare our chosen cocktail, do the flaring and all and recite the recipe in front of our professor. I managed to pass that up and relieved that I haven't broke the bottle that I used during my flaring show. We also do have an event held on a hotel as part of our tour. Different food were served on the buffet table. A wide array of desserts were laid that looked so appetizing. It was a fun experience because we have the chance to taste all the different kinds of food plus a sparkling wine was even served to us at our table. Oh, I hope I can do that again and this time with my hubby and son because I am sure they will love the experience and the food as well.

Organizing an event whether it is a birthday, anniversary, Christmas or just a simple get together party with friends is really a stressful yet a fulfilling responsibility. You must take into consideration what will be the theme of your party. It will all start there from the ambiance, music, food and even the acme lighting equipment that you will use in the venue depends upon your choice of theme. Careful planning must be done and it is best that you have a team to brainstorm and plan the things needed in the party. Each team member must have their particular area of responsibility in order to cover all that needs to be done. But, if you are a mother planning for the party of your child, it is best to include the household members in the planning and execution part of it. In this way, you unburden your self from the stress and in the same way the task will be lighter and easier since many people will work on it. In this light, proper planning and execution of it is the key to have a successful, fun, memorable birthday party or event that can be enjoyed by every attendees invited.

Since Tyreese was diagnosed with asthma we have made our house dust free. We have avoided having pets like dogs and cats running around the area. We also installed an air purifier in our room where he sleeps. Foods that can cause allergy such as nuts, chocolates and eggs are being taken in a minimal intake only. Furniture and other furnishing are kept clean everyday. Even the pillows and beddings have their regular cleaning and sanitizing day so that bed bugs will not stay. We are also being advised by his Pediatrician to use the Made to measure pleated blinds instead of hanging curtains. In this way, the dust are trap on the blinds and will be easy to clean compared to curtains. White colored blind are much preferred since you can easily tell if it is full of dirt and dust. All these things must be taken into consideration because we still don't know what triggers his attacks. So all possibilities must be noted and acted upon. In this way, we keep our son healthy and asthma free. After all, I still prefer having to clean the house everyday rather than bringing him to the hospital because it can be physically, emotionally and financially draining.

A Dream Vacation!

One of my dream vacation would be a norfolk broads boat cruise. Actually, there are so many things and places I want to visit but this one is on my top list. I have done research on it and find it amusing. As I am a nature lover, I want to travel here and have a feel of the environment. I can imagine how the air feels like touching my face and all the fishes waiting to be caught. Of course, a place like that always have restaurants, markets and nearby villages that you can visit if you get bored cruising. Learning the history of a place is really a very overwhelming experience. It is like connecting to it because you are tracing back how the place was formed and become what it is now. Even if you are just a visitor and not a native of the land, it will surely will leave a mark on your memory and heart. And that is what I want to accomplish by having to embark on this ultimate dream of mine. I hope that I can save enough and eventually someday even if I am already old, I can experience having a vacation like this even in a more simple way.
